A brief report from Boston
I ran in the Boston Marathon today and quite quickly, but about 30 minutes slower than should have been the case because of pain from an ongoing injury to my right foot which started in Rome a few weeks ago.
That was very very lucky for me. I was precisely 30 minutes from the finish line when everything explode at the finish line. The good news is that I’m OK, but I’m shaken up pretty badly and deeply saddened and angered by these senseless and cowardly terrorist attacks.
The marathon course was locked down and about five hours later, the runners stranded on the course finally got back to their hotels.
This is a dark day for the victims of these bombings and their families, for running, for Boston and for our world.
Please join me in saying a prayer for those who lost their lives and for those who were injured and have suffered so horribly.
My hotel is two blocks from the blast. Right now, only military and police vehicles are outside. Downtown Boston looks and feels like a war zone right now.
Words cannot express the appreciation I have today for marathoning friends I have around the world much as yourself and the other members of Club Supermarathon Di Italia. I am grateful that in the face of unthinkable evils besetting our small planet – that such goodness as that of the members of our club exists and thrives. That helps me to remain hopeful, even on a day as dark as this one has been for the marathon.
